Unpacking in a day – How to
So, you will need to have some organization before you start unpacking, here are the steps that you need to do in order:
- Clean the place up
- Assemble the kitchen
- Sort out the bathroom
- Unpack the bedroom last
There we go, simple as these 4 steps! However, that is not all. Let us explain it in a bit more detail. Of course, we would be remiss if we did not mention the absolute best way to unpack in a day, which would be acquiring packing services from your moving company. It is a costly option, granted, but it will be done in a day and you will not have to move a muscle.
Clean the place up
This may sound as not really important but in fact, it is. It is best to make sure that everything is pristine before you even start unpacking. You do not want a lot of dust and grime to be present from day one. As for the unpacking process, cleaning the place up will provide you with more potential places to store your stuff. You would not place just any item on a dirty shelf, right? After it is cleaned you can place whatever you want on it!

Unpacking in a day – Assemble the kitchen first
You have to start somewhere and you might as well start at the most important place in your home. The kitchen. Since you have already packed your kitchen with ease, it’s time to unpack everything! You will get hungry at some point in the process and being able to prepare something that you really want to eat is invaluable. You can start by unpacking plates and food first. After that unpack anything that you use the most, such as a coffee maker or a sandwich maker. You can wait with unpacking the rest of the stuff if you like, as it is not really important right now. When unpacking in a day, you need to save time whenever possible!
Sort out the bathroom
The next room that you want to unpack into is the bathroom. Unpack the shower curtains as well as all the towels and toiletries. You may want to unpack into another bathroom if you have multiple in your new home.
If you can’t figure out what goes where on the spot, just unpack the essentials, the things you know you are going to need tonight and tomorrow. If you start organizing it all now, you might find yourself with a perfectly organized bathroom, several hours later…
While we are talking about organizing, this tip goes for everything. If anything looks to be an organizational nightmare, just skip it for now and unpack anything that you will absolutely need.

Do the bedroom last when unpacking in a day
The reason you want to hold out until unpacking your bedroom is quite simple, really. Motivation. Let’s say that you chose to unpack the bedroom first. You will get tired when unpacking and will want to lie down just for a few minutes. And then you think “hell, I will just take a power nap and will continue unpacking after”. And then you wake up in the morning.
So, do yourself a favor and make sure this can not happen. When unpacking in a day, save the bedroom for last!
So, the best way to go about it is to unpack all of the pilows and linens first. Then proceed to actually make the bed. Unpack all of the other stuff that you plan on putting in the bedroom at the end. Then you might as well pick out some of the clothes you will need in the following days. Again, do not try to over organize anything, that is really important.
Unpacking in a day – the Best time to declutter
Once you start unpacking, you will realize that there are a lot of items that are not really necessary in your new home. All of our tips said that you need to unpack the things that you are going to be using immediately or very shortly. Of course, there will be a big pile of things that you will use “eventually”.
Well, consider this. If there are items that are in the “eventually” pile for an extended period of time, perhaps they can be considered clutter. And you will be doing yourself a favor by throwing them away or, even better, donating them! Decluttering home annually is recommended! However, the moving process is the perfect opportunity for it too!

Still too much stuff
If, after sorting everything out, you still find yourself with too many items then it is time to consider other options. One handy option is to rent out storage space. This will enable you to keep everything, keep it safe and also provide you with a means of using the items when you need them.
Just make sure to choose a storage space that is suitable for the items you are storing.
Another option is to try and redesign your home a bit and create that storage space yourself. There are plenty of ways to do so, such as lining your walls with shelves, making your sitting space also a storage space, and so on.
But that is beyond the scope of this article. We hope you have realized that unpacking in a day is not a dream but a certain possibility!
