Moving day tipsFebruary 8, 2021
While moving to a new home is undoubtedly an exciting process, it can also be quite stressful. The weeks leading up to your move will surely be packed with obligations and tasks. Still, there are certain items you should pack on the day of the move, and that will all fit in your essentials box. This package will not only make your moving day a breeze, but also the days that follow in your new place. And, even if you have Columbus moving companies helping you out with everything else, it is wise to pack this box on your own, as you will know best what exactly is it that you need.

Items you should pack on the day of the move that will truly make a difference
Hiring packing services for your household belongings is always a good idea. Not only will they save you plenty of time and nerves, but also energy, and that is always a plus. Apart from other things, you can use this energy to ensure your essentials box is packed. And, here is what needs to find its place inside it:
Fresh bedding and pillows
Probably the last thing you will do before packing boxes into a truck is to strip your bed. Now, if those linens are clean, see that you pack them away separately. This will allow you to quickly make the bed once you arrive at your new home, and get that good night’s sleep. It really is amazing what a freshly made bed can do to make you feel settled in a new place amidst chaos. Additionally, you will feel rather grateful to your past self for ensuring that your future exhausted self had the chance to crash on a clean bed after a long and hectic day.
Cleaning supplies
You might be one of the lucky ones who have access to their new home before moving day. If you are indeed of such fortune, you should prep ahead and clean the new space. However, if you are unable to take care of the cleaning prior to moving day, having some basic supplies ready will come in handy. Apart from cleaning the dust and debris that has collected over time, you will also have to take care of the dirt that comes along with the movers and your boxes. Not to mention that with many moving parts, spills and unexpected messes are a given.
That being said, if you are no as lucky as to have access to your new space before moving day, that is all the more reason to include cleaning supplies into the items you should pack on the day of the move. You will certainly want to complete a few basic cleaning tasks before placing your items throughout the new home. Now, these basic supplies would include sponges, dish soap, hand soap for each sing, paper towels, an all-purpose cleaner, a broom, and a dustpan, dust clothes or rages, and at least one toilet paper for each bathroom.

Toolkit and a flashlight
Having a basic toolkit is a moving essential, even if you don’t plan on placing those shelves on the wall just yet. If the process of your relocation included any furniture disassembly, you will probably want to reassemble those pieces right away. In addition, you never know what you may need pliers or a hammer for. It is with this in mind that it is smart to keep a small toolkit aside for moving day. If you don’t have it – consider buying a new one ahead of time. Just save your receipt and if you don’t use it, return it.
Paper, pen, tape, and scissors
Those who have read our guide on preparing for the move, and know that labeling boxes is an essential packing step will find this advice just as logical. Labeling your rooms will help your movers know where the boxes belong. Simple as that. So, take a Sharpie, some paper, and tape for that. If you have friends and family who are helping you with unpacking, you can direct them by labeling cabinets or drawing floor plans. And, if you are worried about forgetting things like tipping your movers or the place for the spare key, leave yourself a note! Mind you, these are just some of the reasons why you may need a pen and a paper, so it is best that you come prepared.
Phone charger
With all the calls and taking pictures of your belongings and boxes so as to ensure nothing is lost, your phone battery is likely to drain rather quickly. So, don’t forget to have that charger handy. You should also consider having a Bluetooth speaker on board, and play some upbeat or soothing music that will set the atmosphere, easing your stress.

Snacks and water
Moving is draining in every way – physically, emotionally, and mentally. While you have music for the latter two, snacks and water will help with the former. Protein bars are always a good idea, some fruit, nuts, and other things you can eat while on the go, but that will keep you satiated for long.
Overnight bag
A certain way to ensure you feel comfortable at your new home the moment you arrive is to have an overnight bag. This stands for every situation when you have to stay overnight at a place that is not your home. And that is just how your new house will feel. So, make sure to allocate a pair of pajamas, a change of clothes for the next day, plus your toiletry essentials.
It is true that this is not a small number of items you should pack on the day of the move. Howbeit, they all have their use and will most certainly come in handy.
